AMENDMENT IX
"The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be constructed to deny or disparage others retained by the people."
The 9th Amendment is simply a statement that other rights aside from those listed may exist, and just because they are not listed doesn't mean they can be violated.In other words, just because a right is not outlined in the Constitution does not mean that the right does not exist or is not protected.
In my novel, Enrique's Journey, the main character is Enrique. Enrique is traveling to the United States to reunite with his mother who left their home in Honduras for a better economic oppurnunity.
Amendment IX would greatly help Enrique's family because they deserve the right to pursue economic opportunity and also the right to safe travels.
Enrique's main obstacles in this novel are about the risk of serious injury or death while riding atop trains, avoiding gangsters and corrupt police, and health risks of malnutrition and dehydration from days without proper nourishment because people cannot afford food or clean water.
Our government can help Enrique, and other immigrants, by creating an intervention with the government of Central America to protect their citizens and perhaps increase their economy and also by allowing safe travels for those coming to America for economic opportunity.
